Walking

There are enough walks locally to keep anyone happy for a lifetime, from the gentle, casual stroll to more challenging hillside climbs for the more adventurous. Here is a small selection of walks to suit all tastes, with ascending levels of exertion required !! Should you not be blessed with perfect weather, there is a tumble drier available for guests to use!

Cycling

The area is very popular with cyclists, both for leisurely days out and more serious mountain biking. Orchard Dales is five minutes walk from the start of the Tissington Trail, where Ashbourne Cycle Hire is based.

Some examples of local cycling routes can be found here, or you can just head off and see where you end up!!

Golf

Ashbourne has a fine golf club, where visitors are always made to feel most welcome, though pre-booking is recommended at http://www.ashbournegolfclub.co.uk

Fishing

Izaak Walton was based locally when he wrote his famous book "The Compleat Angler", first published in 1653, much of which was inspired by the sport to be had on the River Dove. There is much great fishing of all types to be found to this day in the area around Ashbourne, details of a few of the many options can be found here..

There really is something for anyone within a short drive of Orchard Dales, from the tranquility of Dovedale, to the majesty of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, and the thrills and spills of Alton Towers, come and pay us a visit and try them out.
